The new 36-bed psychogeriatric department at Sha’ar Menashe Mental Health Center was designed around patient wellbeing and the restorative qualities of nature. Guided by principles of therapeutic, biophilic and evidence-based design, the department establishes a strong connection between its interior spaces and surrounding gardens, courtyards and natural light, integrating nature into the healing environment. The department is organised into two independent 18-bed inpatient wings, supported by a shared core comprising a central day space, dining room, occupational therapy facilities and a strategically positioned nurses’ station that enables effective supervision while maintaining an open and respectful atmosphere. A protected courtyard and therapeutic garden provide safe access to outdoor spaces, while staff, service and infrastructure areas are separated from patient circulation. One inpatient wing is fully protected and designed to accommodate additional beds during emergencies, ensuring continuity of care and operation.
